Registered Nurses for Health Enhancement and Local Service (RN HEALS)

Last January 19, 2011, the Department of Health announced that unemployed nurses may now practice their professions under a new program called the RN HEALS program.  This was announced by Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz as part of the DOLE project. The online registration started last January 17, 2011 and will run until February 4, 2011. This program aims to deploy unemployed nurses to poor communities in the country.

RN HEALS stands for Registered Nurses for Health Enhancement and Local Service.  RN HEALS is a program of the government primarily a DOLE collaborative project with the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare & Development (DSWD), Philippine Regulations Commission-Board of Nursing, and the Philippine Nursing Association (PNA).

RN HEALS aims to make essential health services available to all Filipinos by training and deploying 10,000 unemployed nurses in rural and far flung communities within this year.  This program may also solve the problem of having a shortage of skilled and experienced nurses in more than 1,221 rural communities, wherein all nurses are taking their chances in urban areas.

Registered nurses who are physically and mentally fit and are willing to serve in their municipalities may apply online through http://www.nars.dole.gov.ph.  Applicants should check the DOLE website from February 7-10, 2011 for the list of successful applicants.  Orientation will be provided prior to deployment on February 11-12, 2011 in their own provincial centers of assignments by the DOH, DSWD, Professional Regulation Commission-Board of Nursing and Philippine Nurse Association.

A certificate of competency and employment will be given upon completion of the assignment and will be given 8,000php a month by the DOH as their allowance.  LGUs are encouraged by the government to provide additional allowances for board and lodging of at least 2,000php to qualified nurses.  Additional benefits such as Philhealth services and Government Insurance System will be provided for the group insurance of the qualified nurses.
